Mountain Dad is for adventurous dads and father figures with adventurous kids. It offers a chance to spend time with one of your sons or daughters (aged 8 –16 years old) in a group with other dads & their children, and together take on the challenge of hiking to the peak of Cader Idris in the beautiful Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, before relaxing back at the Min y Don centre on the Mawddach Estuary overnight. We are delighted to be able to run Mountain Dad in partnership with Care for the Family. Mountain Dad was conceived by Care for the Family’s Who Let The Dads Out? project. We worked with WLTDO? in 2016 as Mountain Dad ventured up Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Slieve Donard.
Our last Mountain Dad weekend was 24-26 March 2023.
Please check back with us to find out when the next Mountain Dad weekend will be.
Mountain Dad will give you the opportunity to:
- Make great memories together
- Strengthen your family bonds
- Enhance physical and emotional wellbeing and resilience.
Calling all mountain dads – we hope that you can join us in 2023 as together we make memories that will last a lifetime.
We have different options to suit travelling distances and finances:
- Option A: Mountain Weekend
A great, whole weekend option offering time to relax and enjoy your time away. Arrive from 7pm on Friday, where there will be tea, coffee and hot chocolate and biscuits. There will also be an activity or game that you can take part in during the evening. You can either each have your own rooms or share with your child. On Saturday there will be a cooked breakfast, and you can make a packed lunch. Then out on the mountain for the day, returning back to the centre for a cooked evening meal, and relaxed evening activity and campfire (weather permitting). On Sunday you can depart after breakfast by 10am. - Option B: Mountain Day + Friday B&B
A good option if you are travelling some distance and don’t mind the drive home after your mountain day, is to arrive from 7pm on Friday to cups of tea, coffee and hot chocolate and biscuits. You can each have your own rooms or share with your child. On Saturday there will be a cooked breakfast, and you can make a packed lunch. Then out on the mountain for the day. Return back to the centre for a cooked evening meal, departing at 7pm.
