As much as we enjoy life at Min y Don, things can get a bit insular. A self-contained Christian community is often subject to local misunderstanding! In recent years we have appreciated opportunities to get out and about – for us to meet people and for people to come and see what we do.
Local Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
The DofE Award is an exciting, adventurous and fun programme for young people that enables them to develop existing skills as well as to try new activities and challenges. In 2016 we started running this programme in Friog, the local village.
Friog School – Assemblies and PE Lessons
The local primary school is just two miles away. Pete and Susie’s children have grown up there, so we enjoy a good relationship with the teachers. One Monday a month we do the morning assembly. Pete has run Dragon Sports – an after school sports club there for over ten years. We have also enjoyed ‘throwing the Centre open’ by hosting occasional activity days for the pupils.
Tywyn School – Christian Union
Since 2007 the Min y Don staff have been helping to run the Christian Union at the Secondary School. This has proved another great way to meet & encourage the local young people.
Tywyn Baptist Church
This has been our home church for many years. Min y Don staff are involved with the Youth Groups and Music Group.
JFC Youth Club
This is the youth group for 8-11 yr olds, held on a Friday night.
This is the youth group for 11-16 yr olds, held on a Friday night. We play table tennis, pool, airhockey play big-screen Wii and PS2, cook great food and watch big-screen movies.
There are Sunday School classes for three age groups. Many Min y Don staff either run, or assist with these.
Many staff enjoy playing in the band, practising on a Thursday and playing on either or both Sunday services.
For the last two years, Min y Don has hosted a Family Fun Day for the local area. We usually also run an annual evening service there as a team.
